Tomasa Finch

Tomasa "Tomi" Finch passed away peacefully with family members by her side on July 3, 2026, in Chula Vista, CA. Born on November 21, 1948, in San Jose, California, to parents Samuel and Elena Vidaurri, Tomi grew up in Oakland and graduated from Oakland High School in 1967.

Early in her career, Tomi worked as a dental assistant before becoming a secretary at Treasure Island Naval Base near San Francisco. It was there that she met the love of her life, John Finch. Following a two-year engagement, John and Tomi were married at St. Anthony’s Church in Oakland in 1973. Soon after, the Navy transferred John to San Diego, leading the couple to settle in Chula Vista. Tomi then began a dedicated, long-term career with the Social Security Administration, where she worked until her retirement.

Tomi was a loving individual who cherished her deep friendships, particularly with her beloved "Church Chicks", "Quilting Chicks”, and “The Golden Girls”. An exceptionally talented quilter, she poured her love into making beautiful quilts, wall hangings, and keepsakes, specially tailored to the family and friends she gifted them to. She loved traveling, sharing meals with friends and family, and volunteering at her church. Her infectious laugh and beautiful smile brightened every room she entered.

Above all, Tomi’s deep love for Jesus and her dedication to reading the Bible were her pillars of strength. She lived her life with undeniable assurance that she would one day go straight to Heaven. While she is deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is resting in peace with the Lord, and that they now have a special angel watching over them.

Tomi is survived by her beloved husband, John; her loving stepsons, Pat (Tara), Jeff (Teresita), and Joe (Traci); her 8 cherished grandchildren, Aymie, Eliot, Erryn, Ethan, Jeremy, Jonathan, Nate, and Sean; and 5 beautiful great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Pedro Chavez Sr., Maria Elena Montecino, and Yolanda Cabrera, very close nieces and nephews who were like sons and daughters to her, along with a large extended family of cousins, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Tomi will forever be remembered for her loving heart, quiet strength, unwavering faith, and endless devotion to her family. Her kindness, wisdom, and grace touched everyone who knew her. Though she has left this life, Tomi’s legacy of love, family, faith, and creativity will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love.

"Celebration of Life" will be held at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, Chapel of Roses, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902, US, on August 8, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. A "Celebration of Life Reception" Immediately Following Service will take place at Chula Vista Presbyterian Church, Family Life Center, 940 Hilltop Drive, Chula Vista, CA 91911, on August 8, 2026.
