

Victoria Inez Labry was born on December 17, 1963 at the White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles California. She is the eldest of three children born to Earl and Victoria Labry. Vicki was raised in Southern California until 1976 when the family relocated to Kailua, Hawaii. Growing up, Vicki enjoyed having a large variety of pets. She especially loved horses and was an experienced rider. Vicki loved music and played the piano, flute, and guitar. In 1981 her family returned to Southern California.
Victoria Graduated High School from San Pasqual Seventh Day Adventist Academy in 1982. She came from a very religious and dedicated family. Her father is an ordained Minister of the Seventh Day Adventist Church; her Mother Victoria worked for the Adventist Church as well, in different secretarial capacities. She was fortunate to have attended parochial school from the first grade.
In 1982 she was accepted to La Sierra Seventh Day Adventist University. Victoria lived in the dorm, studied general education and worked in the College Market. She struggled with what to major in and often sought the advice of her Student Counselor ultimately deciding to pursue a career in nursing. Victoria was accepted and attended Pierce College Nursing School in Los Angeles CA. During this time, she worked as a Ward Clerk in the Medical Surgical Unit at Westlake Memorial Hospital. Victoria also obtained a job at Ventura Estates Convalescent Hospital in Newbury Park and obtained her Certified Nurse’s Assistant Certificate. Victoria was very proud during this time of her purchase of her first car; it was a white 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. Nursing school was difficult, but she enjoyed the challenge.
In 1988 she graduated from Pierce College Nursing School with an AA in Nursing. Victoria then went to work as a Provisional Nurse at Westlake Memorial Hospital, passed her board the first time to become an RN. Victoria then moved to Davis California and was hired to work in ICU at Sutter General Hospital full time. Seeking knowledge and more challenge she signed a one year contract with the hospital so that I could take advantage of their ICU training and Mentor program. Victoria became ICU Certified and qualified in ACLS, ultimately becoming part of the “Code Blue” team.
Victoria then found employment working full time as a Staff Nurse in CCU at Alameda Hospital. She also continued to work at Vencor in 1993 and would drive back and forth from Alameda to Sacramento. It was at Alameda that Victoria met a co-worker by the name of Shirley Myers. To this day they have remained great friends.
Victoria always felt fortunate to have a very close family in Mexico along with their beautiful culture and traditions. She was fluent in Spanish and used it often in her work. Victoria moved once again and worked at Santa Monica Hospital. It was there she met fellow nurse Margie Fox developing another special lasting friendship.
In 1997 Victoria moved to Brawley CA. She became an active member of the Brawley Chamber of Commerce. Victoria chaired several committees such as The Main street Project working closely with Cal Tans, Rain Tree Quest and was an active member of the Rodeo Committee chairing different event’s. Victoria became a Rotarian and an Elk and continued to provide community service.
In 2002 she met and fell in love with her future husband Al Lamb. In 2003 Victoria went to work at Pacific Surgical Institute of Pain Management in San Diego CA. Dr Smith added Victoria to his Medical Executive Committee. She also became the OSHA Director for the entire medical center. During this time Victoria became involved in Al’s career providing mentorship and guidance to many new Chief Petty Officer Spouses. Victoria was a dedicated Navy wife always ready to provide care or support for those in need.
During 2008 Victoria became a Navy trained Ombudsman and active member of the Command Support Team for the USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN. She was involved in numerous ship functions providing support to the crew and their families. Victoria set up a total of three successful Homecomings’ for over 400 Sailor’s and their loved ones.
Victoria and Al were married in San Francisco California spontaneously during a weekend getaway during the summer of 2010. Victoria went to work in the Recovery Room at Physician’s Surgery Center at Alvarado in San Diego. During this time, Victoria and Al moved to Ramona California. Victoria served as part of the Command Support Team for HS-4, The Legendary Black Knights. She was involved in coordinating and orchestration numerous homecomings providing support for Sailors and their families.
Victoria’s hobbies and passions included horseback riding, driving her 1981 Black Corvette and Father’s 1967 Camaro. She also loved riding her 2007 Harley Davidson Deuce motorcycle with her friends.
Victoria was a devoted and loving wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. She put others before herself and was always there in times of need. She loved her Navy family providing support and encouragement always. Victoria was extremely proud of her American and Hispanic heritage. She will be missed by all.
