Virginia Vinegas Lee, 78, passed away on September 8, 2026. Born on November 4, 1947, in Olongapo City, Philippines, Virginia’s life reflected steady devotion—to family, to faith, and to the work she took on with quiet pride and unwavering diligence. A resident of San Diego, California, she will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who had the privilege to know her.
Virginia built a life defined by perseverance and service. In the Philippines, she worked for the United States Navy Ship Repair Facility for twenty years as an Administrative Assistant, bringing care, reliability, and thoughtful attention to the responsibilities entrusted to her. After moving to the United States, she continued that same work ethic with San Diego Unified School District, where she served for twenty-three years. There she was recognized for her hard-work as Employee of the Year. Across decades of employment, she was known not only for how hard she worked, but for the considerate and generous spirit she carried into daily life.
Virginia was married to Ben Lee Jr for 58 years, a partnership marked by steadfast commitment and enduring love. She was a devoted mother to four children: Arlene Lee Mataban, Benjamin Lee, Constantine Lee, and Darwin Lee. She was also a cherished grandmother to three granddaughters: Vivian Elizabeth Lee, Zofia Estella Lee, and Alexandra Jade Lee. To her family, Virginia’s presence was a constant—selfless in the ways she gave of herself, kind-hearted in her care, and deeply beloved.
Virginia’s sense of joy and curiosity showed in the life she embraced beyond work and home. She loved to shop, and she was very well traveled. She especially loved flying home to the Philippines to visit her family, returning again and again to the place where her story began and where many of her dearest ties remained.
Her faith was a guiding foundation throughout her life. Virginia served as a Deaconess and Finance Officer for the Church of Christ, offering her time and abilities with faithful dedication. In these roles, she gave generously and thoughtfully, supporting her church community with steady hands and a sincere heart.
Virginia Vinegas Lee will be remembered for a life of meaningful work, steadfast faith, and enduring love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through her generosity, her thoughtfulness, and the quiet strength with which she lived.
