Virginia was the first child of Pete and Luisa Garcia. When she was a teenager the family moved from a house on Logan Avenue to a duplex in Linda Vista. Being the oldest of five kids, she would often help her parents with the four younger children before heading off to school. She graduated from the new Kearny High in 1953. She married Benny Uranga in 1959. Together they raised three children. She also worked as a payroll clerk for many years, mostly with Langley corporation. After Benny's passing in 2005, she started volunteering at Sharp Hospital in Chula Vista. She would help distribute flowers and make cookies for the cancer center. She would work in the gift shop and manage the Knit and Crochet group until her very recent illness. She enjoyed gardening in her yard, playing canasta with friends and attending her six grandchildren's many sports and school events.
