Recently when Uncle John passed and we were all sharing memories of his life...the call was ending and for a brief second I saw Uncle Billy's face. I remembered thinking how much I have always loved his face. His face comforted my Grandmother Jo, his sister when she was sick and terrified laying in a hospital. Time had ravaged her memories but his face and presence brought her so much peace. His wisdom and strength was silent, yet he filled the room with his love for all of us. That trip to Colorado was the first time I really got to know Uncle Billy. He shared his mistakes right along side his greatest triumphs, which usually included his children and grand babies. He was grateful for his journey, the good and the bad. His childhood was not conventional and yet he made the most of it. I remembered thinking that he had to be the most humble of men, and yet he had no trouble rising to the task either...two unique and noble traits. I think that his family, his children, grandchildren and even those who only knew him in passing, are incredibly fortunate and blessed to have walked beside him. I hope you all find peace, but more importantly, I hope you find yourself reaching for his wisdom, humor and love when you need it most. He may no longer be with us, be he will always be within us. I love you all!

We all grieve your loss Eva and family and ours, as well. Billy will always be remembered as rough and tough man with a tender, loving heart who was not afraid to always say I love you and shed a tear. His greeting when asked how he was doing "every day is a holiday" would always lift one's spirit.

My baby brother always brought much joy even when he squirted me when changing his diaper and being so cuddly as I rocked him to sleep. His mischievous ways were so cute as Charlene and I cared for him when Mother went to work he was four on. Memories include the time he thought I could not see as he grabbed the hand of his girlfriend across the street, pulled her behind her father's vehicle, picked her up and gave her a big kiss right on the lips, the halloween birthday parties I threw for him and trying to corral his friends while taking them to trick-or-treat, how handsome he looked as he dawned his Navy uniform and being like a son to me all his life. Oh, how I already miss him.

I want to say that I'm sad to see my uncle Billy go but I know he's dancing in heaven along his sisters and brothers and mom and dad, I remember him always being a jokester and making me smile 😃 I love you and your memories will always be with me!

Biography

William Ross Hunt (Bob) was born in Pine Bluff Ar. on October 31 1948 a Halloween surprise for Victor Lee and Rosa Irene Hunt and his 7 older siblings.

Billy (as his family called him) was a bit of a rebellious young man and as his mother was in her 40s when she had him relied on support and guidance from his older sibling who helped him on his path. This support often involved him going to stay with his older siblings for extended stays and gave him the ability to spend quality time with his nieces and nephews cherished memories he carried all his life.

At 17 with his parents permission he enlisted in the US Navy where he served 2 tours in Vietnam and brought him to San Diego.

The Navy bought him the San Diego but a beautiful young woman, Eva Cordova, would eventually keep him here.

They married and found a way to create a family here.

Bob (as he was known on the waterfront) supported their family through 43 year in ship repair. The family they built, his children Christina, Michael, Rachel and Josh gave them 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandkids.

Bill found a way in this life to touch many people as a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grand father and great grandfather, but also as a friend, mentor and teacher.

His final years he spent with his wife of 48 years and as my mother often said he took care of me for many years, she took care of him well those final years and he thanked her daily.

When he took his last breathe he was holding her hand.

This life was one of love for his family and friends and his smile and strength will always be remembered.
