Yvonne Ella (Christie) Ansley passed away at her home in Chula Vista on October 22, 2015 at age 87. She was born on September 29, 1928 in Magherafelt, County Derry in Northern Ireland. Her sister, Rhoda, resides in Ireland. Her parents, Robert and Ella Christie, and her brother Brian, preceded her in death. At 18 she journeyed to England, settled in the Knotting Hill area of London, attended pharmacy school, and volunteered as a nurse with the Red Cross after World War II. In 1952 she married Army Major William T. Ansley who preceded her in death in 1983. After Bill’s retirement the family settled in Chula Vista. She is survived by her son, Wayne Ansley (Patricia Salas), Chula Vista; daughter, Kimberly Ansley, San Diego; and son, Daniel Ansley, Chula Vista; granddaughter, Heather (Jon England); and great-grandchildren Lachlan Ansley (13) and Alexandria England (4). Yvonne was the Social Director at the San Diego Yacht Club until 1968 when she began her career at Roberto DePhilippis’ Butcher Shop Steak House in Chula Vista. A gracious hostess, she always offered guests a welcoming smile and a warm greeting. She retired in 2012 after more than 44 years of service at the restaurant. A long-time member of the First Baptist Church she modeled her deep faith in God. Yvonne loved her family; enjoyed reading; music; sitting by the ocean; the Chargers; and made many friends sharing the stories of her remarkable life. She was an Irish beauty and an elegant woman who loved life and touched so many hearts. Her delightful spirit lives on in all who knew and loved her. A celebration of her life to honor Yvonne Ansley will be held at 1 PM on November 13, 2015 at the First Baptist Church (The Refinery) 494 “E” Street in Chula Vista.
