Alfred Douglas Zinno

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marie (née Ward); his son, John, and daughter-in-law, Savanna (née Roberts), of Cleveland, OH; his daughter, Lindsey Zinno, and son-in-law, Michael Kunz, of Cincinnati, OH; and his sister, Rene Miller (née Zinno), of Columbus, OH, as well as his extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and their families.

Born on February 25, 1952, in Steubenville, OH, Doug was the son of Carmela (née Germano) and Alfred Zinno. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carmela; his father, Alfred; his grandparents, including his beloved grandfather, Antonio Zinno, who held a special place in Doug’s heart; and many dear family members and friends. He is now reunited with those he loved who went before him, welcomed home by the people who meant so much to him throughout his life.

Doug’s greatest joy was his family. And as his family grew, so did the people he loved. He welcomed each new member with open arms and made them feel as though they had always belonged. He always made room for one more seat at the table, whether it was for family, a friend, a neighbor, or someone he had just met. Above all, he was a devoted husband, and father, as well as a cherished uncle, mentor, neighbor, and friend. Many of the friendships he made throughout his life became like family of their own.

Among his closest and most enduring friendships was his bond with Joseph Berardelli, his best friend of nearly 70 years. What began as a childhood friendship grew into a brotherhood that lasted through every chapter of their lives.

Throughout his life, Doug found purpose in bringing people together and helping them find their own strengths. He had a way of rallying people around a game, getting everyone involved, and encouraging them to give it their all. He was deeply involved in youth sports in Canton, giving his time and energy to young athletes and their families. He loved watching people challenge themselves and discover what they were capable of, and the lessons he shared went well beyond the field.

Golf was a part of Doug’s life for as long as his family can remember. He started playing as a child and never stopped, and as the years went on, he found more and more time to play. He was a talented golfer who truly loved the game and the friendships that came with it. On January 19, 2025, Doug made a hole-in-one, a moment made even more special because it fell on what would have been his mother Carmela’s 100th birthday.

That same spirit of hard work and encouragement carried into his career. As a top-achieving salesman, Doug took new team members under his wing, sharing his knowledge and experience and cheering them on as they found their own success. He was always ready to give someone a push when they needed it and celebrate when they rose to the occasion.

Doug attended Kent State University before beginning his career and his life with Marie in Valley Forge, PA. Their family later moved to Reading, PA, and then to Canton, OH, where they raised their children and built a life surrounded by friends, neighbors, and people who became an important part of Doug’s life.

Later in life, Doug and Marie settled in Bonita Springs, FL, beginning a chapter of life they embraced fully. They enjoyed their days with the community they found in Worthington, filling them with golf, biking, swimming, jumping rope, morning trips to the gym, and plenty of time with friends and neighbors. At 73, Doug even took up tennis, always willing to try something new and find another way to enjoy an active life. Doug loved the freedom of this stage of life and made the most of every day, always ready for the next round of golf, another bike ride, or a gathering with the people who had become part of their lives.

Doug will be remembered for the way he made people feel: welcomed, encouraged, and part of something bigger than themselves. He lived with a generosity and enthusiasm for life that left a lasting impression on the people around him. The life he lived will continue to inspire us—to embrace our own lives fully, to stay connected to the people we love, and to carry forward the spirit he gave so freely to others.
