Troy was currently living in Naples, Florida with Kristie, his beloved wife of 20 years. Although his death was sudden and unexpected, he died peacefully with Kristie by his side.
Troy was born in Bedford, Virginia to Richard & Carol Burnett. He grew up at the base of the Peaks of Otter in the Blue Ridge Mountains. He was a happy child that loved being outside. Throughout his life he enjoyed mountain hikes, beach walks, runs, and bike rides. He was a kid at heart. If you ever asked him how old he was, his reply was always 29.
Troy was a loyal & loving husband, brother, son, son-in-law, brother-in-law, nephew, uncle, stepfather and friend. He was generous, caring, empathetic and a prolific storyteller. He will probably be remembered most by his speaking ability, quick wit and sense of humor. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He captivated family & friends with his ‘Perfect Storm’ story!
His favorite thing to do was spend a day at the beach with a book and his best friend, Kristie. He was always up for a spectacular sunset on the beach with friends.
He loved technology and loved learning new things, which led to his career in radio communications. After college, he started with Ericsson, which evolved into Harris L3. He ended his career with a company in SW Florida, Communications International (CI), in a position that he loved, as an Account Manager.
Troy also had a deep love for the Bible. From a very young age, after he heard the story of King Solomon, he read the Bible because he wanted to be wise and make good decisions. He was always active in sharing the wonderful promises found in the Bible with others.
He is survived by his wife, Kristie Burnett; his parents, Richard and Carol Burnett; his brother, Forrest Burnett (wife Eva); his sisters- Tara Roberts (husband Rob); Olivia “Libby” Scott (husband Jason); and Sarah Jane Mayhew (husband Adam); and nieces and nephews- Paige, Tristen, Ethan, Emma and Anna; his Aunts- Aunt Susie Wilkinson (Uncle Charles); Aunt Kathy Pleasants (Uncle Ben); as well as other uncles, cousins that were like siblings, and many close friends.
His generosity knew no bounds. He’d often give of his time, money, and resources to help those in need. As a result, he gained many other “nieces and nephews.”
There is so much more that should be said, but in the end, what he did was make those that knew him laugh, or for sure, smile! He's gone way too soon! He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him best and his life will live on in the colorful stories he told. We look forward to the time when Jehovah will remember “all those in his memorial tombs” (John 5:28, 29) and reunite us with him.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 2:00 pm at 1534 Link Rd, in Bedford, Virginia. (Call 540-583-0094 for zoom info). Also, a Sunset Farewell Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, July 27th at Lowdermilk Park beach, south gazebo, in Naples, Florida from 6pm to sunset.
Acknowledgement of appreciation - Kristie and her family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the many prayers, comforting words, visits, flowers, food and loving support throughout this difficult time.
