Almus "Buddy" Calvery, 83, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born July 21, 1935, in Tippah County to Monroe and Myrtle Calvery. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Blackland, where he enjoyed singing in the choir and attending faithfully. In the earlier years, Buddy and his wife, Betty enjoyed raising and working Racking Horses and going to horse shows with their two sons, James and Randy. Before her passing, he and his wife also enjoyed traveling, and spending time with and watching their grandchildren play ball and cheer. Mr. Calvery was a long time employee of Brown Shoe Company until its closing. He then began working at NEMCC in the maintenance department until his retirement. He instilled in his sons a strong work ethic and always told them, "There is more to managing your money than making it." A celebration of life service will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Bishop and Bro. Jerry Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his son, Randy Calvery and his wife Teresa; grandchildren, Cristi Calvery, Kinsey (Channing ) McCreary, Daniel and Chase Calvery and Drew Noe; three great-grandchildren, Landon, Wayne and Millie Noe; his sisters, Connie Guin, Sybil (Layne) Dees and Eunice (Jerry) Kelly; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Betty Calvery; his parents; his son, James Calvery; sisters, Naomi Newby, Charlene Frederick and Louise Calvery. Pallbearers are Benny Frederick, Sammy Frederick, Mark Moore, Kerry Kelly, Keith Kelly, Robby Kelly, Clay Koon and Craig Koon. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church in Blackland.
