Archie Saylors

Archie Saylors, 96, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born August 28, 1916, to Toy and Ida Lou Saylors. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Blackland. He was a lifelong dairy and row crop farmer in the Blackland Community where he enjoyed his many friends and family members especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His hobby was playing checkers with his friends at the Blackland country store. In 1988 he won the Mississippi State Checker Tournament in Petal, MS. Mr. Saylors was active in the community and church affairs, he was a longtime trustee of the Blackland Grammer School and he was active in the RCDC program.

Funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Walter Downs and Bro. Robert McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Blackland Cemetery.

He is survived by three sons, Deryl (Brenda) Saylors of Booneville, Manfred Saylors of Booneville, and Kerry (Elizabeth) Saylors of Amory; eight grandchildren, Deanna (Tar) Reid of Charlotte, NC, Stephanie (Wade) Williams of Houston, TX, Tracy (Terry) Cartwright of Booneville, Teresa (Randy) Calvery of Booneville, Paul Saylors of Tupelo, John Saylors of Booneville, Sharla Saylors of Amory, Laura (Justin) Gibson of Amory; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Miriam Saylors of Tupelo and Emogene Moore of Jumpertown; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Moore Saylors; one son, Dean Saylors; his parents; three sisters, Ruby Mims, Ruth Wilson, Billie Jean Prather; five brothers, Youll V., John Allen, Van, Lacy, and James Howard Saylors; one infant grandson, Timothy Deryl Saylors; one infant granddaughter, Shelia Deanise Saylors.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00P.M. Monday, January 28, 2013 and until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Charles Melvin Geno, Gregory Geno, Jimmy Moore, Berry Moore, Charlie Mac Moore, and Trent Moore.
