Charles Lex Cain, 92, of Thrasher passed away on March 30, 2018 at his home. He was born on March 30, 1926 in Belmont, MS to the late Largus and Leona Cain. He was a 1946 graduate of Belmont High School and Sunflower Junior College class of 1947 where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was a 1948 graduate of NEMCC the year it was established and a member of the Tiger Basketball team. Then he attended Bethel College and earned a BS degree and he received an award for most valuable player and then went on to receive his Master’s degree from Mississippi State University. After college he was a teacher and coach at Glendale High School, Thrasher High School (where in 1969 he coached the State BB Champions), Ecru High School and Jumpertown High School. In 1972 he was elected Prentiss County Superintendent which he served 16 years. He was a member Tuscumbia Baptist Church, Booneville Lion’s Club , Booneville Civitan’s Club and he served on the NEMCC board of trustees for 16 years, a U.S. Army Veteran, WWII Combat Veteran serving with the 48th armored infantry battalion earning 2 purple hearts,1 bronze star, 4 battle stars and the Combat Infantryman Badge. His hobbies were, traveling, fishing and watching MSU ballgames.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Ruby Moore Cain; one grandson Matthew Cain and his wife Jessica of Booneville; three great grandchildren, Carter Cain, Lily Cain and Noah Cain; one sister, Vaudie Mae Mitchell; one brother-in-law, Hugh Edward Moore and his wife Mavoline of Marietta and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Andy Cain, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Monday, April 2, 2018 at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ben Parman officiating. Burial will be in the Tuscumbia Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Sunday, April 1, 2018 and until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Phillips, Robby Bridges, Eddie Moore, Phil Moore, Scotty Moore and Steve Cain.
Honorary pallbearers will be his 1969 Thrasher State BB Champions, Kenny Goldman, Perry Walden, Donald Wilson, Tommy Arnold, Jimmy Johnson and Gary Johnson.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or NEMCC Athletic Department.
