William Darrell Smith, 87, passed away September 2, 2018, at Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Booneville. He was born March 1, 1931, to William Earl Monroe Smith and Ara Greene Smith. He was a 1949 graduate of New Site High School and attended Northeast Junior College. He was a Korean War veteran serving as a teletype operator attaining the rank of sergeant. He worked in management at Brown Shoe Company and in the garment manufacturing industry. He retired from Winfield Manufacturing in Burnsville. After retirement he enjoyed doing carpenter work and mowing yards. He enjoyed gardening, doing word puzzles, and following the Ole Miss Rebels. He was a member of East Booneville Baptist Church.

A celebration of life service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 6, 2018, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Howell and Bro. Kelly Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in Tishomingo Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wanda Johnson Smith; two sons, Danny Lynn Smith of Harrisonburg, VA and Dennis (Jan) Smith of Baldwyn; three grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Jana (Neal) Allen and Kelsey (Trey) Schubert; four great-grandchildren, Riley and Nicholas Smith and Baker and Myles Allen; one brother, Dewell (Miriam) Smith; three sisters-in-law, Vera Taylor, Miriam Riddle and Barbara Borden; one brother-in-law, James (Louise) Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers are Jacob Smith, Jimmy Taylor, Neal Allen, and Trey Schubert.

Honorary pallbearers are Gary Nesler, Stanley Wright, Tony Presley, Bill Spain, Bill Ward, Ken Goodwin, Randy Michael and David Prichard.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to East Booneville Baptist Church, 602 E. Church Street, Booneville, MS 38829 or First Christian Church, 996 S. 4th Street, Baldwyn, MS 38824.
