Howard “Howie” Watkins, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on 1/8/2026 in Plano, Texas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Watkins, and his daughter Sherrie Watkins.
Howard is survived by his son, Howard Watkins III and daughter in law Dianne Watkins; grandsons, David Crawford and Christopher Crawford and his life partner Maria Dischiavo.
While in High School, Howie played two years of varsity football. After graduation in 1949 he decided to attend the Naval Academy. While at the academy, he was the safety officer of his squadron. A post held previously by Pete Conrad and Buzz Aldren, both of the apollo program. He left his distinguished career with the Navy after 12 years of service.
Howard started his career in San Deigo, CA and then moved to St. Louis as a safety engineer for Mcdonnell Douglas. He later worked for Department of Labor as an Osha inspector before his retirement in the mid 90’s.
Howard loved to talk about his family, sports and politics. He supported the Navy football team as well as the Dallas Cowboys.
In 2005, he and Betty moved to Plano, Texas to be close to their son and grandsons.

A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 16, 2026, at McMillan Funeral Home. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
