OBITUARY

Lydia Virginia Smith

June 6, 1928June 22, 2019

Lydia Virginia Smith, age 91, passed away on June 22, 2019 at her home due to a health issue. She was born on June 6, 1928 in Booneville, MS to John Thomas and Rilla Mae Murphy Henderson. She married her lifelong soulmate Herman Hestle Smith on November 11, 1944, who preceded her in death on November 7, 2000. Lydia loved to love her family and friends. She was a longtime employee of Northeast Manufacturing Company, where she retired, and became a fulltime housewife and grandmother, but to all her grands, she became our new babysitter. Her hands where rarely still, she was a family matriarch and she kept everyone in freshed canned vegetables. She loved to cook breakfast for all and she was known for her buck dancing to Blue Grass Music. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and a celebration of life will be at 4:00 PM Sunday, June 23, 2019 at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Blakney and Don Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Moorman Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Rejetta Moorman and Avetta Mooney (Tom); two sons, Geary Smith and Gaylon Smith all of Booneville; grandchildren, Jerry Dale Moorman, Patsy Butler (Charles), Missy King, Tena Stewart (Brent), Stacy Owens (Micheal), Renea Smith (Britt), Brandie Hasting (Rico), Ray Smith and Laken Smith (Derik) all of Booneville; great grandchildren, she made no difference in us at all: Jody Clark, Danielle Grey (Evan), Lauren Smith, Holly Jackson, Hannah Butler, Trey Butler, Jace Smith, Draye Hasting, Katie Owens, Kaiden Owens, Reed Strickland all of Booneville; great great grandchildren, Addie and Ian Grose, EllaJay Rose Calvery, Kowen Owens, Ethan and Alaina Smith and Rayden and Cruz Smith and Serenity Axas all of Boonville; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Ceola Saylors, Lula May Hutchins, Glenna Jackson and Edith Johnson; one brother, Austin Henderson; and one grandson, Tommy Gaylon Jr. Pallbearers will be Rico Hastings, Brent Stewart, Derik McGreger, Teddy Burcham, James Ray Plaxico, Charles Butler, Jerry Dale Moorman and Jody Clark.

Everyone loved Lydia like she was their own family. That’s how she treated everyone. She was a kind, loving, vivacious woman. She will be greatly missed by anyone who was blessed to have known her. Prayers of comfort for her family.
