

Maxie Dee McCown Long, 80, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at her residence in Dunwoody, GA after a long illness. Born in Birmingham, AL in 1932, Maxie moved to Booneville, MS and graduated from Booneville High School. She lived most of her life in Memphis, TN with her husband of 52 years Willis Haskell Long who passed away in 2004.
Maxie attended Mid South Bible College, worked at Walden Book Stores and wrote newspaper articles for various local newspapers. She also worked a short time for the FBI in Washington, DC. She was a member of Hickory Hills Baptist Church in Memphis. For the most part, Maxie enjoyed her time with her family, and was a prolific prayer warrior as most of her family and friends can attest.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 3, 2013 at McMillan Funeral Home with Pastor Whitt Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Forrest Memorial Park.
She is survived by her daughter, Marty Thomas (Jimmy), her three grandchildren, Joshua Thomas (Christy), Micah Thomas, and Joel Thomas and one great-grandchild, Audrey Marie Thomas born this past November 9th.
She was preceded in death by her father, William F. McCown; her mother, Lillie Dora McCown.
Visitation will be 4-6:30 PM on Saturday and until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
