Asbury Bryant Hirsch, former owner of Hirsch Rexall Drugs on Main St in Boonville passed from this earth on July 18, 2018, after a life that spanned over a century. Asbury was a resident of Boonville until 2007, when he moved to Overland Park, KS to be closer to family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11:00 am at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Boonville, MO with Fr. Kevin Gormley officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery with full military honors.
Asbury was born on April 27, 1918 in Boonville, MO the son of Asbury Bryant Sr and Blanch Flora (Powell) Hirsch. In 1940, he graduated with honors from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and joined his father in running the drugstore in Boonville, until duty called in World War II. Asbury served as a medic with the 103rd Infantry Division, which was fighting for freedom in France, Germany and Austria, through the war’s end in 1945. He returned to Boonville and to the family business, which he ran until his retirement in 1979.
Asbury was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mabel and his twin sister, Alice. He is survived by his two daughters, Simone Kelly (Mark) of Overland Park, KS; and Christine Stubbs (Rob) of Boulder, CO; two grandsons; and five great grandchildren.
Even through the most difficult times, Asbury was a father determined to protect and provide for his loved ones. He loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Asbury was an active member of the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a member of the Boonville Knights of Columbus, and an avid fan of research and innovation. He loved learning about new products and researching potential investments in groundbreaking companies. He was perpetually delighted and amazed by the future and he never stopped eagerly anticipating what would happen next.
