Mabel was a resident at Park Meadows Senior Living in Overland Park, Kansas. She also resided at the Forum in Overland Park, and, before that, lived for many decades in Boonville, Missouri.
A funeral mass will be held for Mabel at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Boonville, Missouri at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 3. A rosary will be read beginning at noon at the church on the same day. Inurnment will follow the memorial mass at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
She was born Mabel Maria Lammers in Cooper County, Missouri, on May 17, 1921 to her parents Mary and Henry. On June 17, 1961, she was united in marriage to Paul Schmitthausen until he passed away in 1988. On October 20, 1990, she married Asbury Hirsch. She worked for many years at Kemper State Bank in Boonville. In addition to her first husband,
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Mary Ann Schmitthausen, and by her brothers and sisters; Roy, Raymond, Robert, Marvin, Ernest, Ona, and Estelle.
Mabel is survived by her husband Asbury, his daughters Simone Kelly and Christine Stubbs, her sister-in-law Marjorie Lammers, and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mabel was a kind soul who was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. Faith and family were two bedrocks in her life. She loved music. One of her greatest pleasures after her move to Overland Park were opportunities to see opera, ballet, and to hear concerts performed in Kansas City, but she also enjoyed local artists who performed at her retirement community. She had a beautiful singing voice.
