

Charles “Charley” Peter Kindregan, Jr. was a Professor at Suffolk University Law School, where he taught courses in a variety of subjects including Family Law, Financial Issues in Divorce, Assisted Reproductive Technology, Professional Responsibility and Torts. He joined the faculty at Suffolk Law in 1967. He founded Suffolk Law’s Advanced Legal Studies program, served as Associate Dean, and was a mentor to generations of students. Kindregan was Vice-Chair of the ABA Committee on Reproductive Technology and Genetics.
Professor Kindregan received his L.L.M. from Northwestern University School of Law, his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law of the Illinois Institute of Technology, and his M.A. and B.A. from LaSalle University of Philadelphia.
A prolific writer, he authored numerous books and articles, and co-authored many more. He may be best known to the Boston bar for the three volume Massachusetts Family Law and Practice with Forms which he co-authored with Maureen McBrien and Patricia Kindregan and the Massachusetts Domestic Relations Rules and Statutes Annotated. Professor Kindregan served on numerous legal boards and was a featured speaker at many legal conferences including the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools. He authored Amicus Briefs in numerous high-profile family law cases over the years, including the landmark Goodrich case, which brought marriage equality to the commonwealth.
Kindregan was an avid historian, and possessed a lifelong passion for the American Civil War. He regularly travelled to visit Civil War battlefields, spoke on Civil War topics, and was a perennial participant in the Civil War conferences at Gettysburg College every summer. In his youth, Kindregan was a batboy for the Philadelphia Athletics under Coach Connie Mack, and remained a baseball fan for life. Upon moving to Boston, he adopted the Red Sox as his team, Among many other avocations, Kindregan was a lifelong stamp collector, an honorary colonel in the Kentucky Militia, a member of the Union Club, and for many years was the faculty advisor to “The Advocate”, a student magazine at Suffolk Law. One of his great pleasures in life was to visit his house in Bethel Maine during the summer, where he was well known among the local residents.
He is reunited with his late wife Patricia Anne Kindregan, and is survived by his children "Chad" P. Kindregan III of Topsfield, Helen C. Lockhart of Weston, Patricia A. Kindregan of New York, NY, and Brian T. Kindregan of Long Beach, CA, his grandchildren Mia, Bodin, Natasha, Ava, Christian and Thomas, and his sister Elizabeth Walsh of Philadelphia, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church for Charles P. Kindregan, Jr. The family will receive visitors on Monday from 4-8pm in the Boston Harborside Home, 580 Commercial St., Boston. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Suffolk Law School’s Charles P.
