Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 28, 1989, and raised in Framingham, Chris brought light and joy to everyone who knew him. He was the cherished son of Winston and Agnes Wong, older brother to Adam Wong, and a beloved member of a large and loving extended family that includes many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Growing up, Chris was known for his calm demeanor and caring for others. He enjoyed spending time with his grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins, especially during the holidays and celebrations. Chris made many friends from school, and a number of those relationships have lasted to this day. Chris enjoyed playing basketball, swimming, and other sports. As an older brother, he would always look out for Adam on the bus ride to school. They enjoyed each other’s company very much. This natural inclination to nurture, help, and protect became one of Chris’s signature traits.
Chris’s academic success started at a young age. He enjoyed homework and studied hard every day. Nothing held him back from his studies, not even leukemia at age 13. During his treatment, hospitalization, and rehabilitation, he continued doing his homework. Chris graduated middle school and high school on time with high honors and was inducted into the National Honor Society. AP chemistry was his favorite class. His passion for science helped forge his career to become a chemist and researcher.
Chris went on to college and earned his B.S. from The University of Rochester magna cum laude and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Boston University. Chris worked long days and nights as a researcher and teaching assistant and was very admired by his students. After BU, Chris moved to New Jersey and worked as an organic chemist at NJ Bio and then later moved back to Framingham and became a respected Health and Safety Consultant for Safety Partners in the life sciences field. His intelligence, curiosity, and dedication were deeply admired by his co-workers and clients, who saw him as an insightful leader and team player.
Chris was a true foodie whether it was enjoying meals with family and friends, dining out, or preparing meals with meticulous planning and execution. Chris was always trying new dishes, recipes, and cuisines. He kept track of them in his Plan to Eat app on his phone, which he installed on his parents’ phones, too. Always the scientist, he would tweak his recipes to his taste. When cooking at home with his parents, he would always say, “I’ve got it, just go and relax!” Inevitably, his parents were relegated to sous chefs when Chris commandeered the kitchen at home.
Chris also had a deep love for sports, both as an avid fan of Boston’s professional teams and playing tennis, bowling, and basketball. One of his highlights was attending the U.S. Open Tennis Championships with his friend Joey. In 2024, Chris, Adam, and Bonnie and their dad attended a Celtics game after enjoying a delicious Japanese meal. Sports and food were a running theme for Chris. During many games, Chris, Adam and their dad would watch together and have many conversations on who and what to bet on in the DraftKings app.
Despite his recent battle with pancreatic cancer, Chris continued to let his wonderful personality shine through during his treatments and hospital stays. He consulted with the doctors as a fellow scientist, always inquisitive and asking questions. Chris stayed positive and was more concerned about the well-being of his mom, dad, and his brother. He was always cordial and polite with the doctors and nurses. His infusion nurse Julianna and Chris formed a special bond that warmed our hearts.
Chris cherished the life he built and lived. Those who knew Chris will remember his bright smile, unwavering optimism, and the remarkable grace and courage he showed throughout his life. Chris lived a life of purpose, generosity, kindness, and compassion for others. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have been around Chris during his 36 years. We will miss him dearly and will hold on to all of our wonderful memories of Chris.
