Lisa Hessler, 57, of Beacon Hill, passed away on August 13, 2025, from complications of a complex neurological disorder. A beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, Lisa will be remembered for her brilliance, generosity, and her deep love for both people and the natural world.
Born on 27 April 1968 in Boston, Lisa grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, and spent summer days in Chatham and on Martha’s Vineyard. Despite her New England roots, Lisa always felt her true home was in the Rocky Mountains – first in her 20s exploring the foothills of the Front Range in Colorado and later in life when she discovered the beauty of the Grand Tetons in Wyoming.
Lisa earned a B.S. in Sustainable Agriculture from the University of Vermont. Early in her career, she worked on the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee in Washington, D.C., where she contributed to the Farm Bill of the early 1990s and supported the development of legislation on organic standards.
Her career later turned to finance, and she became an investment manager and CFA charter holder. Lisa built lasting relationships with her clients and was deeply committed to advancing women in financial services. As president of the Boston Economic Club, she championed the work of leading women in economic research. She served as a mentor to countless young professionals and created internship programs at several financial organizations.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lisa’s greatest joy was her family and the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life. She cherished every joyful moment spent amidst the colorful flower boxes of Beacon Hill with her beloved – her one and only – Chris Hessler. Her warmth, generosity, and ability to bring people together were gifts she shared freely with those around her.
Lisa is survived by her husband, John Christian Hessler; her son, Cameron “Cam” Chioffi; her sister, Sally Lincoln; her brother, Richard Lincoln; her stepmother, Margaret Lincoln; her stepchildren, Phillip Hessler, Brolin Mawejje, Jack Hessler, Jimmy Hessler, and Nikki Hessler; and her former husband, Bill Chioffi. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas Lincoln.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the King’s Chapel Parish House, 64 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02108 on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lisa’s memory to Friends of the Boston Gardens.
Lisa’s legacy will live on in the mountains she loved, the family she cherished, and the countless lives she touched with her bright smile, kindness, and compassion.
