Dear Connaught,

We are embarrassed to confess that we did not know of Gael's passing until now. Gael was an outstanding example of professionalism and civility and a great person. I fondly remember our time litigating a case that took us from Puerto Rico to Michigan, but more importantly to share with both of you in Boston and in San Juan. Our heartfelt condolences and Puerto Rican hug and kiss to you and your family. We will celebrate Gael's life and our friendship forever. Alfredo and Nuria

My deepest condolences.  I had the great privilege of working with Mr. Mahony as a paralegal at Hill & Barlow in the 1990s, and always appreciated the decency and consideration he showed not only to team members, but to opposing counsel as well.  One of my fondest memories was the time I visited his house in evening to drop off an impressive legal industry award he had received at the office.  He was visibly chagrined at its size and ostentation, and asked me to return it to the office so we could later arrange something more simple.  

I later attended law school with his recommendation in hand, and have worked in the industry since, and to this day that is the only time I have seen an attorney of his caliber turn down an award as too showy!  He was the best, and I hope that knowledge is some comfort in this difficult time.

Dear Mrs. Mahony and family
Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your husband and father .  I have wonderful and fond memories of Mr. Mahony from my summers at the Cape and I am sure he will be deeply missed.

My condolences to Mr. Mahony's family. My late father, Matthew McGrath, was one of the defense counsel in the Boston Common Garage action successfully prosecuted by Mr. Mahony. My father always spoke highly of him and Mr. Mahony made a gracious statement to the press upon his death in 2006. God Bless you at this difficult time.

I just heard about Gael's passing and wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. 

In so many ways, I learned to be a lawyer working with Gael and I draw daily on lessons he taught me (either directly or indirectly).

I was saddened to read of Gael's death. I has been years sinwe have been in touch,but I remember well our association after Margaret Gorman introduced us. I have sold my house  in Lincoln and now live at Fox Hill

Dear Connaught, I was very sorry to hear of Mr. Mahony's passing.  I had the pleasure of knowing him at Hill & Barlow for 18 years and occasionally sat in for Linda at her desk.  He was dictating to me for a couple of hours (the old fashion stenography) and it was getting a little past the time I was to leave.  I stopped and asked him if it would be possible to continue in the morning because my young son was pitching in the All Star game that evening.  He told me to put my steno pad down and get to that game.  He was a perfect gentleman and a great family man.  Sending my warmest wishes, Karen Brisbois

Dear Connaught: The Senator called me today to tell me of Gael's death and I could hear in his voice and words his deep sorrow and regard for Gael's importance in the Senator's life.  I so remember you and Gael in the early days of the AG campaign and then the 4 years we served together.  Gael was so classy ....I admired you and Gael so much - what a special team you made!
It is ironic - about 3 weeks ago I wrote to Nora Feld about Gael agreeing to send me and Jacquie Goodspeed to St. Thomas to track down the phone calls of some bum in the Underground Garage case - it was the only boondoggle I had as a public servant - we spent 3 days in the telephone company in St. Thomas making mad notes for Gael and then spent a week getting a tan. Ha Ha. I send to you and your family my deepest sympathy - please know, Connaught, that there are many of us - though unconnected in the intervening years - who remember and admire both of you so much . What can any of Gael's countless friends say about him that you do not already know?  

He was a giant in the courtroom and a teacher and example to generations of trial lawyers; a most formidable opponent and, at the same time, unfailingly honorable and a consummate gentleman.

He gave the very best to his clients, his colleagues, the trial bar and his community.

Margie and I are so glad to have known you and Gael and to join many, many others in honoring Gael.  His was truly a life well lived. We send our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Gael was one of my early mentors at Hill & Barlow. I am a law professor now, and still quote some of the things that he taught me (especially about the importance of understanding the facts). He was a lion of the bar, a gentleman, and a thoughtful teacher. My condolences to his family.

Please accept my most heartfelt condolences on Gael's passing.  Gael was a giant of a man.  I met him more when I started at Hill & Barlow more then 35 years ago.  His dignity, intellect and devotion to his clients was truly extraordinary.  He was a mentor beyond compare.  But it was obvious that his love for you and your family was most important to him.  He will be sorely missed.
