Fr. Kieran Monahan OFM

Fr. Kieran Monahan OFM of Boston on January 11, 2014. Born, Edward Monahan, on June 9, 1937, the son of John and MaryAnn (Shipsey) Monahan. He was received into the First Order on August 15, 1958 and made his temporary profession on August 16, 1959 at Immaculate Conception Novitiate in Troy, NY. Fr. Kieran professed solemn vows on August 16, 1962 at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Troy, NY. He was ordained to the sacred Priesthood on June 12, 1965 by the Most Rev. Lawrence Graziano, OFM., D.D. at Mount Alvernia Seminary in Wappingers Falls, NY. From 1965 to 1972, Fr. Kieran worked diligently in the ministry of Secondary Education at Serra Catholic High School in McKeesport, PA from 1972 to 1976, Fr. Kieran was a member of the Formation team and Instructor at Immaculate Conception Seminary College in Troy, NY. In 1976, Fr. Kieran returned to Serra Catholic High School in McKeesport, PA as the Headmaster and remained there until 1985. From then on, Fr. Kieran was involved in a variety of ministries which included: Pastor of St. Peter Church, Portland, ME and Parochial Vicar, Director of Health Care, and Hospital Chaplain. In 2007, he relocated to St. Christopher Friary, Boston, MA as a Senior Friar with retirement status. For those of us who knew Fr. Kieran, we were aware that his commitment to his vocation as a Franciscan friar was something he recognized as very serious and very important. He was also quite intent on living out his priestly vocation in the best manner possible. Fr. Kieran worked assiduously at each and every ministry he was called to serve in. He is the loving brother of George Monahan of Newton, Bill Monahan of FL and Jim Monahan of Norwood. He is also survived by 3 nieces and 2 nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Leonard Church, corner of Hanover and Prince St., Boston on Thursday at 11am. Visitation will be in St. Leonard Church Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm with a wake service at 7:30pm. Services will conclude with interment in Friars’ Cemetery, Andover. Donations in Fr.
