Lai Kuen Yee, 85, of Brookline, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2020. She was born in Toisan, Guangdong Province, China, a daughter of the late Yong Yuan Yu and Yu Bao Situ. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Song Foon Yee. She leaves three daughters and two sons, Jane, Tamara and her husband Kenneth Ho, Michelle, Tom and Harry, three grandchildren, Lori, Connie and Stefan and their father Wesley Wong, three brothers Qing Jie Yu and his wife Tan Shi, Qing Jiang Yu and his wife Lian Ying Huang and Qing Quan Yu and his wife Lao Shi, and 28 nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Qing Liang Yu and his wife Kun Wei Huang and her three sisters She Zhu Yu, Hui Ji Yu and Dong Ying Yu. She moved to Hong Kong in 1953 and immigrated to Boston in 1969. She was a hard worker, with jobs in Boston at her father- in- law’s laundromat, then as a thread cutter at a sewing factory and in her years before retirement as a home health aide for the elderly. She was kind and compassionate. She raised five children who enjoyed her cooking, especially flavorful soups and Chinese New Year specialties like fried peanut dumplings, and devoted her attention to their well-being. She also helped raise her three grandchildren as a doting Chinese grandmother would, making sure they were well fed with macaroni soup and reminding them to study hard. Because of the family’s concern for everyone’s safety during the pandemic, private funeral services will be on Friday November 27, 2020 at 12:00PM at the J.S. Waterman-Langone Chapel, 580 Commercial Street, Boston, MA 02109. All are welcome to attend via the Zoom link at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83197673118?pwd=M1ZNREU0eko3Q3VIM3F4Z1NhM040UT09.
