Father Marcellinus Borg, OFM on February 23, 2014. Born Lawrence John Baptist, son John and Mary Borg, was born on February 24, 1928 in Detroit, MI. He was received into the First Order on July 14, 1950 and made his temporary profession on July 15, 1951 at Immaculate Conception Novitiate in Troy, NY. Most of his ministerial experiences were centered around parochial work in the parishes entrusted to the care of the Province including: Our Lady Help of Christians in Pittsburgh, PA; Our Lady of Peace, Brooklyn, NY; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Mount Vernon, NY; St. Anthony, Troy, NY; St. Thomas Aquinas, Derry, NH; and Immaculate Conception in Toronto, Canada. He spent the first few years after his ordination as a faculty member at Christopher Columbus High School, Boston. In 2004, he took up residence at St. Anthony Friary, Catskill, NY as a retired Senior Friar. He the loving brother of Hubert P. Borg Sr. and his wife Mary of Fitchburg, Marie Toth and her husband Robert of Hicksville, NY and the late John A. Borg. Beloved uncle of Paula Roberts, Julie Boutwell, MaryBeth Carpenter, John, Hubert JR., Stephen and Christopher Borg, Christian and Lesley Toth. Also survived by grand nieces and nephews as well as a great-grandniece. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 7:00 -9:00 pm in Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham. A Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am in Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, February 27, 2014. His body will be interred at a later date in Friars’ Cemetery, Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Immaculate Conception Province, 125 Thompson St., NY, NY 10012.
