

Paul was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and steadfast friend. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. Paul was born to Lucy (Nardone) and Paul Squarcia in Bentleyville, PA on November 17, 1939. He attended Bentleyville High School and graduated in 1957. Paul was an outstanding high school athlete, so much so that he was recruited to play quarterback for Boston University. He graduated from BU in 1961 with a Bachelor’s degree. He married his high school sweetheart, Gena Maria Porreca, on August 18, 1962. Paul received an M.Ed. from the University of New Hampshire and in 1987 earned a D.Ed. from Boston College. Paul and Gena lived in New Hampshire and Maine where Paul taught and coached at Berlin High School and Oxford Hills High School prior to moving to Plymouth, MA in 1970 where he resided for 45 years with Gena and raised their children Paul, Stephanie and Suzanne. Paul worked at the Silver Lake School District from 1970 to 2000, the last 21 years as the Superintendent of Schools. Following his retirement from Silver Lake, he enjoyed a second career as the vice president of graduate and professional studies at the Van Loan School, Endicott College. His dedication, sage advice and wisdom guided thousands of his students. He was appointed a member of the inaugural Board of Directors of Sacred Heart School and served as president of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents from 1992 to 1993. Paul was also involved in the New England Association of School Superintendents for several years and served as president in 1999.
Paul is survived by his son Paul and daughter-in-law Angela, his daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Geoff Anderson, and his daughter Suzanne and son-in-law Nathan Haynes; and his grandchildren Ella and Ben Squarcia, Sophie, Audrey and Geoffrey Anderson and Madeleine Haynes. Paul is also survived by his sister Dolores Supp and nieces and nephews. Paul is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Gena, his parents Lucy and Paul Squarcia, and his sister Marie Kempa.
