Rosemary Shaw Blake, aged 103, of Brookline, MA, died peacefully at her home on May 26 . She was the wife of the late George Baty Blake. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, George Baty Blake, Jr., her daughter Rosemary Shaw Johnson, her daughter Diana Blake Bigelow, and her granddaughter, Rosemary S. Blake. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Samuel P. Shaw and Howard S. Shaw, and her sisters, Eleanor Mittendorf, Jane Coburn, and Gertrude Crittenden. She is survived by her son, Francis S. Blake and her daughter, Cynthia Blake; her seven grandchildren: George B. Blake, Tamasin S. Johnson, Gillian Blake, Francis S. Blake, Margaret B. Bailey, Benjamin B. Colegrave and Siena B.B. Colegrave; and thirteen great grandchildren. She graduated from Windsor School. Through her long life, she was a mainstay and support to her family and friends. She was a masterful storyteller, with a never ending supply of entertaining and amusing tales, and she could make even the shyest person in the room blossom, feeling the full force of her attention. She set high standards; she was always chic in snappy suits and dresses, with, up until age ninety-five, high heels. There were no trousers or pant suits in her closet. She enjoyed going out, especially with her granddaughter, Tamasin, eating oysters and drinking Gordon’s Gin. She could finish the New York Times crossword puzzle in pen and never lost her wit and sharp observational skills. We all thought she was a force of nature who would always be with us. We will miss her. A memorial service will be held on August 7 at 3pm in the Church of Our Saviour in Brookline, MA.
