Travis was born in Clinton, Iowa on February 10, 1980. While Travis grew up in San Antonio, Texas, he spent many summers in Iowa where he loved enjoying time with his family and friends and never forgot the beautiful Iowa sky. Travis graduated from Judson High School in Converse, Texas, where he created the beloved mascot “Rocket Man.” In San Antonio, Travis worked in the food service industry where he developed many lifelong friendships that were sustained throughout his life. Travis cherished his many San Antonio friends as family and was lovingly known for his “family nights.”
Travis met Christopher Joseph in San Antonio where they were married on October 10, 2009. In 2010, they relocated to Boston, where they quickly immersed themselves into Boston culture, prospering in their careers and enjoying family, as well as making many friends part of their family. Both Travis and Chris believed in the motto, “Work hard to play hard,” a sentiment that was evident in their travels from Thailand to South Africa to Iceland and beyond. They loved exploring the world and they left a trail of funny jokes and memorable moments behind them wherever they went. Their Boston home was a place to land for many people; whether it was for fun or for support, Travis and Chris were the heart of their community.
Travis worked for Tavistock Restaurant Collection for nine years. He began as a bartender, quickly made a name for himself, and was promoted several times before securing the position as General Manager at Joe’s Newberry in 2016. During this time Travis was nominated for Boston Business Journal’s 40 under 40. Travis was the ultimate people person and had a wonderful ability to bring people together to create something extraordinary.
Travis joined DotOUT in 2010 as the Co-Vice President on the board where he lead the design and construction of the DotOUT’s award winning floats for Boston Pride parade annually. Travis, in the true spirit of DotOUT, had the unique ability to Connect the Dots between people, make bridges, and had a tremendous impact on the LGBTQ community in Boston. Travis also loved playing Disc golf with his friends.
Travis is survived by his spouse Christopher Joseph, his mother and step father Janna and James Hawkins, by his sister Candra Ramirez (Rene) and his niece Sloane Ramirez.
