

William Earl “Bill” Strole, MD, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, in his home after a long illness. He was 92 years old. Dr. Strole is survived by nieces, Allison Allen Young, Geraldine Allen Boone, Bonnie Walthall Pratt, and Wendy Walthall Short, and nephews, James W. Allen III and Scott W. Walthall.
Dr. Strole was born in Norfolk, Virginia and spent his youth in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia Medical School. He relocated to Boston for his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine and specialty training in Gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He practiced Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology on the staff of Massachusetts General Hospital for more than 20 Years.
Dr. Strole was a longtime resident of Beacon Hill and had been active in the proprietors of Louisburg Square for many years. He was a noted collector and expert on Antique American Furniture and Chinese Export Art and for many years was a supporter/volunteer at the Peabody Essex Museum.
Bill also had a closeknit, devoted circle of friends who shared his “one day at a time” approach to life. He was noted for annual Christmas Eve dinners which he hosted for more than 40 years. He will be sorely missed.
Family and friends are invited to Dr. Strole’s Memorial Service on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Kings Chapel Parish House, 64 Beacon Street, Boston, MA at 11 am.
