Alice Coombs Santos

SANTOS, Alice Hammond Coombs, 93, of East Falmouth passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on November 14, 2014. Alice was born on August 20, 1921 in Bourne, MA to Pearl and Bertram Coombs. She was one of fourteen children. Her siblings who preceded her in death were Carol Carrington, Pearl Lima, Louise Jackson, Gertrude Trotman, Aaron Tobey, Alcott Tobey, and Elton Tobey. She is survived by her siblings, Wilhemina Tobey, Ernestine Benson, Thelma Fair, Thornton (Ben) Tobey, Rhoda Fernandez and Malcolm Tobey. Alice was the wife of the late Albert R. Santos. She leaves behind 7 loving children – Robert Santos (Boston), Joyce Green (East Falmouth), Marilyn Daniels (East Falmouth) Albert Santos (Boston), Walter Santos (Sacramento, CA), JoMike Santos (his wife Marcia) (Arlington, MA), Deanna Santos-Stevenson (Sacramento, CA). She also leaves a beautiful legacy of 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild, along with numerous nephews and nieces she loved dearly. Alice was an active member of the First Pentecostal Church of Mashpee, where she was an active member, was the "Mother" of the First Pentecostal Church of Mashpe, where she was a Sunday School teacher, usher and worked tirelessly in the upkeep of the church and sang in the choir. Mother Santos was blessed with the Ministry of Helps and did it with joy. She was also a proud member of the Wampanoag Tribe. Alice participated in many community service events and she enjoyed nature and all things outdoors. Visiting hours will be at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA on Friday, 11/21/14, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, 11/22/14 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with internment immediately following at the Pocasset Cemetery. A celebration of life repast will follow at the Wampanoag Tribal Community and Government Center in Mashpee.
