Arlene McCarthy Sparrow, passed away on June 8, 2013 at home in Oakton, Virginia with her family in attendance. Born in 1930 in Wellesley MA to George and Catherine McCarthy, she had three brothers George, Donald and Robert all of whom predeceased her. She lived in Grey Gables/Bourne, MA with her husband Richard Sparrow for decades prior to moving to Virginia. Arlene worked for many years at AT&T (MA Bell) in Boston and is survived by many nephews, nieces, their children as well as many dear friends. Arlene Sparrow was loved by all who knew her and was a guiding light when a beacon was needed. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 13 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 14 at 10:30 at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church, 841 Shore Rd, Pocasset, MA. Burial will follow at Old Bourne Cemetery.
