Claire Diane (Samson) Desmarais, 79, passed away on her birthday, January 23, 2022, at her home in Pocasset with her family by her side. Born in Fall River, she was the wife of the late William T. Desmarais for 52 years. Claire was an avid volunteer for St. John the Evangelist Church, Pocasset which included the St. Vincent de Paul Society, bridal ministry, and Eucharistic ministry. She was a founding member of St. John’s 55 and Over, a ministry which served meals twice a week to the community’s senior population. She ran this ministry for over 25 years serving thousands of people each year. Claire and her husband, Bill, ran bingo at St. Johns’ for more than thirty years. She was a member of the Third Order of Franciscans and was awarded the Marian Medal by the Diocese of Fall River for her service to the Church.
Claire was the beloved mother of Michele Royal and her husband, Wayne, of Malden, Elizabeth Desmarais of North Andover and William T. Desmarais, Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Wrentham, and the loving grandmother of Ethan, Matthew, Isaac, Gabriella, Jacquelyn, and Daniel. She was the sister of the late Mirette Paré and Jeanne Nadeau. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 30th from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne. A Funeral Mass will be held on January 31 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist, Pocasset, followed by a repast. Burial is in Massachusetts National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
