Women’s Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer. Darlene was born on August 10,
1936 in Cambridge, MA to the late Robert J. and Rosanne (Bass) Trebino. She graduated from Lexington
High School, married the late Peter B. Maio in 1956 and built a home in Carlisle, MA. They moved to
Bourne, MA in 1977 and owned the Beach House, a bar in Monument Beach, until 1984, then next
owned a restaurant, The Marion Kitchen in Marion. Darlene worked at all positions, including
bookkeeper of the businesses. She made many lifetime friends among the customers and neighboring
business owners. Darlene was active in the local VFW Auxiliary, and volunteered at the Bourne Library,
until she retired. She continued to be a strong supporter of Veterans’ causes.
Darlene was a loving mother to Saphir R. Lewis of Bellingham, WA, Catherine Belcik and her husband
Joseph of Marlborough, NH, Frank S. Maio of Falmouth and Robert P. Maio of Pocasset, loving aunt to
several nieces and nephews including Trinda DellaRocca of Oxford ME, with whom she shared a special
relationship. Darlene was the beloved Grammy of Austin Belcik of Swanzey, NH, Matthew Belcik of San
Diego, CA and Marlborough, NH, Alexa Lewis, Jordan Lewis and his wife Yihan of Washington, Amy Maio
and Alaina Maio of Massachusetts, and great-grandmother to three. She is survived by one brother,
Larry Trebino of Oxford, ME and a beloved sister-in-law, Sylvia Maio of N.Reading, MA.
Darlene was an avid reader, puzzle solver, and champion scrabble player. She played Words with
Friends daily, with family and making new online friend from around the world. She enjoyed gardening,
feeding the birds, playing Keno, going to musicals and plays, baking and trying new recipes. Darlene
liked to draw and paint, often using her garden and birds as subjects. The Orioles she attracted to her
feeders were one of her favorites. She was a big fan of the Red Sox and Patriots through good times
and bad. Darlene loved and enjoyed her many friends, and her family is grateful for their support and
prayers during her illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 19th at St. John the Evangelist Church, 841
Shore Road, Pocasset at 10:00 am. Visitation following at 11:15 am to 12:45 at Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd (Route 28), Bourne. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
