Donald F. Macphee

October 25, 1932July 24, 2021

Donald MacPhee passed away peacefully at his home in Pocasset, MA July 24, 2021 after a long illness. He is survived by his spouse, Gail Larsen-MacPhee, son Ted, predeceased by son Dana, and grandchildren Ethan and Morgan. After he graduated UMASS Amherst in 1955 (and as a senior was the best all around college lineman in years earning him All America Honors Football) he joined the Navy serving 1956-1962. He embarked on a career selling Caterpillar marine engines till his retirement in 2009. Both he and Gail loved to be on the water and spent many wonderful vacations bareboat chartering in the British Virgin Islands (their favorite haunt), the southwest coast of Florida, and the Florida Keys. He will be buried at the National Cemetery in Bourne at a date yet to be determined. Burial will be private. Donations can be made to VNA of Cape Cod Hospice 255 Independence Drive Hyannis, MA 02601 in memory of Donald.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sales to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and the sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says: “There, she is gone!” “Gone where?” Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear the load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: “There, she is gone!” There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: “Here she comes!” And that is dying. - Henry Van Dyke

Gail I am so sorry to read of Don’s passing. George William Curtis said it best “ It is not the ship as the skilled sailing that assures the prosperous voyage “ This can certainly be said of the many journeys you shared with him throughout the years. May your many memories console you at this very difficult time. BETTE
