Born to Andrew and Bessie Dubose on April 3, 1932 in Brantley, Alabama, Dorothy Dubose was the youngest of four girls. She and her sisters, Gerotha, Isa Fena, and Dwinny Rochelle, grew up picking all manner of fruits and vegetables in the fields of southern Alabama. She is now the last of the sisters to pass away.
She received a BA in education in 1958 from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida where she met and married her soul mate Joseph Armstrong with whom she remained married for 60 years. They have four children; Karl/Dan, Beth, Greg and Steve. They lived up and down the east coast before settling in Lancaster, PA in 1976 where they lived until moving in 2015 to Buzzards Bay, MA to be near their daughter, Beth.
Dorothy taught elementary school grades K through 3 and special ed. until the birth of her younger sons and then returned to teaching later at Christian schools in the Lancaster area. She also volunteered teaching English to immigrants. She was a gentle and compassionate teacher who loved all her students.
She was an active church member and enjoyed singing gospel music.
Throughout their life Joe and Doy enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph, and 4 children, and by 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held for the immediate family in Buzzards Bay, MA at 11:00 am on Wednesday the 12th.
