SAGAMORE -- Dorothy Ann (Barrows) Kelso of Sagamore Beach died peacefully at her daughter Jane and son-in-law Jack’s home in Mansfield on Sunday, September 8, 2019. She was married for over 53 years to George James Kelso, who predeceased her on March 31, 1995.
Born April 30, 1924, in Foxboro, she was the daughter of Francis and Elisabeth (Leggee) Barrows. She graduated from Foxboro High School in 1942. After raising their seven children in Foxboro, she and her husband moved to Sagamore Beach 49 years ago.
Mrs. Kelso is survived by her seven children: Catherine wife of Donald Dahlgaard of Norton, Barbara wife of the late Joseph Warren Jr. of Foxboro, Beth Ann wife of Larry Stone of East Longmeadow, Kevin Kelso husband of Jerrilynn (Ricciardone) of Spring Hill, Florida, Marjorie Kelso partner of Robert Stamps Sr. of Lake Elmore, Vermont, Jane wife of John “Jack” Haddigan of Mansfield, and Mary wife of Paul McAvoy of Foxboro; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, her sister Barbara (Barrows) wife of the late William Marquardt of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews. Roger Caroll husband of Nancy Tyminski of New Jersey, who was originally a Fresh Air child in the Kelso’s home, is also considered a surviving family member.
She was predeceased by her brother Francis Barrows, who died in infancy.
Mrs. Kelso was once employed at Foxboro Town Clerk’s Office and regularly volunteered at the Food Pantry in Bourne, St. Vincent de Paul - Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich, and on Medical Missions in Honduras. She was a member of the National Society of the American Colonists, the National Society of the Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century, the National Society of Daughters of Colonial Wars, the Tupper Family Association, and the Nye Family Association. She was also a Gold Star Wife and a descendant of the founding families of Nova Scotia and Lunenburg.
Mrs. Kelso was a seamstress, knitter, baker, crafter, and she loved to travel. She is a member of the St. Bonaventure Parish in Plymouth and Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday September 12, 2019 at 11AM, Corpus Christi Parish, 326 Quaker Meeting House Rd. Sandwich, MA. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday September 11, 2019 from 4-7PM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Sandwich, MA 154 RT.6A.
