Born on January 20, 1947, in Miami, FL, Edwin lived a life marked by service, creativity, curiosity, and devotion to his family. As a child, he served as an altar boy, an early reflection of the sense of duty and humility that would remain with him throughout his life. From a very young age, he pursued modeling and acting, even receiving permission from the mayor of New York City to work on an NBC television program as a child. His early career also included appearances in LIFE magazine and the stage production of The Ponder Heart, experiences that reflected both his ambition and adventurous spirit.
Edwin attended St. Paul's School and New York Military Academy before earning his GED so that he could continue pursuing opportunities in the spotlight - even moving to Hollywood for a short time. His lifelong love of learning eventually led him to study History at Rhode Island College and later earn a master’s degree from Central Michigan University.
Edwin proudly served his country for many years. He began his military career in the United States Navy, serving in Vietnam, before continuing his distinguished service in the United States Army until his retirement in 2002. He also spent a short time serving his community as a volunteer firefighter.
A lifelong lover of history and physics, Edwin was rarely without a book, a notebook, or a story idea. He leaves behind countless notepads and recordings filled with stories he was actively writing and developing - a lasting reflection of his imagination, intellect, and love of storytelling. He took immense pride in his Irish heritage and was known for his dry sense of humor, patience, and thoughtful conversations. He was also someone who never asked much from others, carrying himself with independence, quiet resilience, and appreciation for the simple things in life. Family and friends will fondly remember hearing him say, “I don’t know where we’re going, but we’ll be the first ones there.”
Above all else, Edwin loved his children deeply.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Caitlin Parkinson (Buckley); her husband, Patrick Parkinson; and their children, Blakeney, Banks, and Clementine Parkinson; his son, Brian Buckley; his daughter, Colleen Buckley, and her fiancé, Francis Freel; and his sister, Phyllis Dressler (Posteraro). He was predeceased by his mother, Olga Buckley (Posteraro).
A burial service with military honors will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 12:45 p.m. at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
