Eleanor (Applebaum) Myerson, 94, formerly of Brookline and Cataumet, died Nov. 20 at Falmouth Hospital after a cerebral hemorrhage. Long active in town and Democratic politics, Mrs. Myerson served four terms in the State Legislature, representing the 11th Suffolk District (Brookline/Boston) from 1983 to 1991. Prior to that she served three terms on Brookline’s Board of Selectmen.
Born in Winthrop on May 5, 1922, a daughter of the late Jacob and Rebecca (Cohen) Applebaum, she grew up in Brookline, attending public schools there. An honors graduate of Smith College, she was married for more than 71 years to the late Morton Myerson. She and her husband retired to Cataumet, where they spent summers since 1972. Mrs. Myerson was a member of the Cataumet Club, the Cataumet Civic Association, and the Pocasset Golf Club.
She leaves a daughter Ann Myerson of Brookline, a son and daughter-in-law Joseph Myerson and Lynne Johnson of Bolton, MA, two sisters-in-law Harriet Myerson of Newton and Betty Appleton of Natick, and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial gathering Friday, December 2nd, from Noon to 3pm at the Pocasset Golf Club. Burial will be private. Please send contributions in her name to Emily’s List, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, or the Bourne Conservation Trust.
