He was born September 23, 1919 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of the late Emile J. and Gertrude (McGurn) Belair. He was the loving husband of Lorna M. (Billings) Belair, they were married September 1, 1947. Emile was a long time resident of Worcester, MA.
Emile enlisted in the Army in 1942. Two days into the “Battle of the Bulge”, in 1944, he was injured. He was most proud of his infantry badge.
Emile was an employee of the Worcester Housing Authority from 1951 to 1978
Emile was a member of many musical groups in Worcester and Cape Cod. Some of Emile’s favorite pastimes were gardening, talking politics, and was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox. Emile and his wife vacationed on Cape Cod and moved to Sagamore Beach in 1979.
Preceding Emile in death were his siblings, Frank, Grace, Florence, Gertrude and his son-in-law Thomas Costa.
Surviving family members are his children, Donna Costa of Scituate RI, Paula Belair and her husband Walter Zukas of Boxborough MA, Edward Belair and his wife Melissa of Taunton, MA, and John Belair and his wife Cathy-Lynne of Falmouth MA. His grandchildren, David Costa, Ben Belair and his wife Ailish, Katie Soto and her husband Robert, Michael Belair and his wife Mindy, Steven Zukas, Joseph Zukas, Sarah Belair, Daniel Belair. He was the loving great grandfather of Sophia, Ryan and Colin Soto and Conor and Lily Belair. Surviving siblings are Peggy Swanberg of Claremont, CA, and Mildred Conway of Shrewsberry, MA. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
There will be calling hours with the family on Friday, February 5 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA 02532.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 PM, at The Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd, East Sandwich, MA 02537, burial to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
