

He was born on October 18, 1926 to the late William F. and Mary G. (MacDougall) Joyce in Boston, MA.
Eugene, affectionately known as, “Genie”, was one of 13 siblings, and graduated with a BA from Boston College. He taught in the Boston Public Schools until he retired to the Cape in 1982. Eugene joined the United States Army during the Korean conflict in 1953 and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1955.
Genie was a proud member of the Wednesday Morning Singers where he spent most of his time leading groups who sang for nursing home residents on the Cape. He enjoyed watching Catholic programming on EWTN.
Eugene will be remembered for his sweet, pleasant disposition and having a friendly word for anyone he met. He was the “family historian” and was passionate about keeping diligent records of major family events. Eugene was also known for his love of animals, most especially his numerous “Heidi” dogs.
Eugene was predeceased by his siblings: John Herbert, Mary Isabel Hayes, Eleanor Louise Callahan, Caroline (Carlene) Maria Sullivan, William Francis Jr., Martha, Gerard (Jerry) Joseph, Oliver (Rocky) James, Sister Mary Martha Theresa, Emerette (Teddy) Anne Colton, Alfred Charles, and David. Uncle Genie is survived by many nieces and nephews, who always enjoyed his company and considered him a very special uncle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday August 12th, 9:15am at St. Margaret’s Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay. A visitation will precede the service from 8:45am to 9:15am at St. Margaret’s Church. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery 10:45am.
