Francis P. Steele

Francis P. Steele, 89 of Buzzards Bay, beloved husband of Gloria B. (Karle) Steele, passed away May 24, 2014 after a short but heroic battle with lung cancer. The lovely couple just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in January.

Francis was born in Bolton, MA in 1925. In 1944, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during World War II and fought in the historic Battle of the Bulge. At the conclusion of the war, he returned to Worcester and met the love of his life, Gloria. They had five children together. Mr. Steele worked for the city of Worcester for 27 years. They resided in Worcester until retiring to the Cape Cod in 1990.

Francis enjoyed golfing and gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was a wonderful soldier, husband and father and will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to his wife he is survived by 5 children, David P. Steele of Buzzards Bay, MA; Patricia (husband Joseph) Latour of Navarre, FL; Francis P. Steele, Jr., of Charlotte, NC; John J. Steele (wife Jeri Jean) of Rutland, MA; and Paul R. Steele (wife Sharon) of Buzzards Bay, MA. He is also survived 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life mass will be held Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at the St. John Evangelist Church in Pocasset, MA. A visitation will be held 9:30 to 11:30 prior to funeral mass in Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd. Bourne, MA 02532. Interment with military honors in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod 255 Independence Drive, Hyannis, MA 02601.
