SAGAMORE BEACH - Frederick Anthony Twomey of Bourne died on May 13, 2016, which was his 87th birthday. He was born in Brockton, and was the son of the late Frederick Raymond Twomey and the late Grace Mary (Mullins) Twomey. He was predeceased by his brother, John (Jack) Twomey of Brockton, and his sister, Alice Cashin of Brockton.
Fred was a 1947 graduate of Monsignor James Coyle High School in Taunton, and attended Boston College and St. Francis College in Loretto, PA.
He enlisted in the USAR in 1950, and was selected to attend the Army Counterintelligence Corps School, Fort Holabird, Baltimore, MD. He served as 1st Sergeant of the Headquarters Company, 320th Military Police Battalion, Taunton, MA. He was assigned as a Special Agent in the Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Boston and Fort Devens, MA. After 39 years of service, he retired in 1989 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CWO4), the highest Warrant Officer rank available at that time.
Beginning as a guard in 1958 for Raytheon Company’s North Dighton Plant, he was promoted in 1977 to the Microwave Power Division, Waltham, MA as the Division Security Manager. He retired in 1991.
In 1994, he was the recipient of the Marian Medal. Fred was a solemnly professed Franciscan, and he was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
As an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP), he helped establish the Food Pantry at Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich. For many years, he was very actively involved in collecting and distributing clothing and food to the needy. He was very close to Fr. Emil Cook in Honduras, who founded the housing and educational organization APUFRAM for the poor in Honduras.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Jeanne (Demers) Twomey. They were married for more than 62 years. He also leaves 4 children, Frederick B. (Rick) and his wife Rosemarie of Dartmouth, Daniel B. and his wife Lisa of Virginia, Karen P. and her husband Robert Everson of Yarmouth, and Michael S. and his former wife Deborah of Bourne. He is the grandfather of 9 grandchildren; Joseph, David, Jacob, Nicholas, Lauren, Jeffrey, Bradley, Patrick, and Matthew, along with 4 (almost 5) great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18th at Corpus Christi Parish 324 Quaker Meeting House Road, East Sandwich. Visitation 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in church prior to mass. Burial will be private and will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Arrangements are by the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd. Bourne, MA.
