She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, James (Jay) Conlon. Together, they built a life centered on the people they loved most. She was the proud mother of five children, James Conlon of Sagamore Beach, MA, Laurie Hopkins of Willcox, AZ, Jennifer Conlon of Sagamore Beach, MA, Michael Paul Conlon (deceased 1980), and Catherine Tuccinardi of Taunton, MA. She welcomed Jill Conlon, Adam Hopkins, and David Tuccinardi into the family as her children married, and treated them as her own. She was the cherished grandmother of seven grandchildren: Zackary Hopkins, Daniel Hopkins, Benjamin Conlon, Meghan Conlon, Sarah Conlon, Elijah Tuccinardi and Giovanni Tuccinardi.
Born on June 29, 1947 to George Mitchell and Yvonne Mitchell (Barbeau), Georgia grew up with her nine siblings in Buzzards Bay, and attended Bourne Public Schools.
Once married, she worked hard as a homemaker for those in her immediate family. Her effort also extended beyond her husband, children and grandchildren as she cared for her own mother, neighbors, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends. She gave of herself to make people feel remembered, included, special, and to make them laugh.
She planned far ahead for birthdays and Christmas, remembering what each person loved and making sure no one was forgotten. She gave thoughtful gifts, although some were so unexpected or outrageous that they became family stories of their own. At her grandchildren's birthday parties, she made sure all of the other children went home with a little something, too.
She had a quick wit, a determined streak, and a genuine love of being a trickster, especially with her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed the satisfaction of pulling off a mischievous prank, and many of those moments will live on as some of the family's favorite stories.
While she will be deeply missed, her family and friends will carry her forward in the traditions she created, the stories they tell, the jokes they remember, and most of all, in the way they care for one another. Her family is very grateful for the compassionate care Georgia received at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth and through the Visiting Nurses Association of Cape Cod Hospice program.
A visiting hour will be held on Tuesday October 13th at 10am, St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 141 Main St., Buzzards Bay, MA 02532 with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation, PO Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601, in memory of Georgia Conlon.
