Harry was born on May 7th, 1927 in Brighton, MA to Harry and Anna (Sullivan) Hayes, Sr.
He was the former husband of Lorraine E. (Bean) Hayes Wilkins, who predeceased him.
Harry left high school at the age of 17 to enlist in the United States Navy, Naval Air Corps and was stationed at NAS Pensacola, FL from 1944 to 1946. He was very proud to have served his country during World War II.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy. Harry attended prep school at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH where he obtained his high school degree. He attended Marianapolis in Thompson CT and went on to receive his A.B. degree at Boston University in 1952.
Harry was in the insurance field for many years, working for various insurance companies, ending his career working for the Commonwealth of MA Division of Insurance Fraudulent Claims Bureau as senior claims examiner.
After his retirement he enjoyed fishing, boating and watching sports events, football and his life long passion, the horse races. Harry was a gifted athlete who excelled at football, track, hockey and boxing.
He is survived by his four children, Scott Hayes of Maui, Hawaii, Lynn Tripp of Sandwich, MA, Mark Hayes of Bourne, MA, Brooke McCarthy and her husband Kevin of East Falmouth, MA. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn Hayes of Yarmouth Port, MA. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Anne Connor, Theresa Mason, his brother, John "Buddy" Hayes and predeceased by nephew Richard Mason. He is also survived by four grandchildren, one great grandchild and a niece Joan (Phillip) Hughes of Wilmington, MA.
The family would like to thank Fidelis Hospice, Jim Lichwell, and the very caring staff at the Royal of Cotuit Nursing Home. The family would also like to thank Cindy Lang of Bourne, MA for her care for Harry, allowing him to stay in his home for quite sometime, a home he loved very much.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 30th at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Church 841 Shore Road Pocasset, MA. Internment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visitation prior to mass 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to garysinesefoundation.org.
