

Howard B. Travis, III, 64, of Providence, RI, passed away on Sunday, September 25th. He was the loving son of Helen (Dunham) Travis and the late Howard B. Travis, Jr. of Sandwich, MA (formerly of Framingham, MA). He is survived by his two sons, Christopher and his wife Brook of Warrenton, Oregon, and Howard (Scooter) IV and his wife Stephanie of Allston, MA, and his former wife of 23 years, Janet Guidi of Harrison, Maine. Howie leaves behind his sister Debbie and her late husband Dick Connaughton of Ashland, sister Linda and her husband Mark Spielmann of Sandwich, brother Gerald and his wife Luann of Falmouth, and brother George and his wife Susan of Sutton, as well as several nieces and nephews and three great nieces.
Howie graduated from Framingham North High School in 1970 and worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 26 years, first at Cushing Hospital in Framingham and then Pocasset Mental Health Center on Cape Cod. He eventually became the Director for Upper Cape Crisis Intervention in Hyannis.
He was active during his life in the Bourne High School Football Pigskin Club, Echo of Cape Cod, Cursillo (A movement for Christian renewal), and AFSCME, serving as Sargent-at-Arms, and was a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister.
In later years, Howie eventually provided significant service to people in need through the Salvation Army. He attended the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and received his certificate to provide counseling to people seeking treatment services. Prior to his passing, Howie was a Christian Worker for the Zion Gospel Church in East Providence, RI.
Howie’s favorite pastime was fishing along the banks of the Cape Cod Canal and family ski trips to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. He was an avid Boston sports fan and was a long time Providence Bruins season ticket holder. Howie was a devoted son and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family on Cape Cod.
