

Jim grew up in Auburn, NY (Upstate) on Owasco Lake. The lake is where he developed his love of boating. As a young man joined the military and was stationed at Selfridge Air Force Base, Michigan. After his service he worked as a salesman for Good Year Tire in Elmira, NY. In 1966 he met Dorothy Knaus, and they married in 1968. Jim transitioned from tires sales to boat sales for Penn Yan Boats in Penn Yan, NY. Boat sales was what moved him and his family to Pocasset, MA in 1980. After boat sales he transitioned back to Good Year Tire Co. and Jim worked for Cape Tire Service in Hyannis MA until his retirement. He loved spending time with his family, especially on his boat on Buzzards Bay, playing golf, the family dogs, talking to people and making friends everywhere he went.
James survived by his loving wife Dorothy Shepard, who shared 57 years of marriage. His daughter Amy Shepard and her partner Sean Condon and his son Griffin Condon of Plymouth, MA. His son James Shepard, Jr. and wife Sreya of Groveland, MA with their sons Paul and Ben Shepard.
He is also survived by his brother Bob (Marilyn) Shepard of Auburn, NY. His sister-in-law Kitty (Luther) Shepard of Auburn, NY. Nephews and a niece with their families in Upstate NY. His Sister-in-law Judy Lambeth of Greensboro, NC and a niece and nephew with their families in NC.
He was preceded in passing by his brother Luther “Bill” Shepard of Auburn, NY, his brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Lambeth of Greensboro, NC, life-long friend Jim Sweeting of Auburn, NY, and life-long friend, Bill Pierce also of Auburn, NY.
Services to be announced at a later date. Burial to be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
