

Jean H. (McGrath) Simmons passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026. Born on April 20, 1939, in Walpole, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen “Alice” McGrath. The twin sister of Phillip Thomas McGrath, and sister to John J. McGrath, James McGrath, the late Harold McGrath, and the late Judith (McGrath) Violett.
Married to husband William for 62 years who passed in 2020. Jean is survived by her children William Jr. & Roxanne Simmons of North Attleboro, John Eric & Jo Oxentenko Simmons of Anchorage Alaska, Linda Kent of Mashpee, and Laurie & James Crabtree of Danville, New Hampshire. Beloved Nana to her 10 grandchildren David & Hannah Simmons, Kelsey & Kyle Simmons, Sam, Emily & Max Kent, Jake, Mollie & Joe Crabtree, and Great Grandmother to her 10 great grandchildren Everett, Ivy, Easton, Nolan, Baker, Rory, Rylan, Tate, Eleanor & Adeline.
After moving as a military family for 21 years, Jean and her family finally settled in Bourne in 1974 where her and Bill raised their children, and remained until 2023.
Jean loved spending time with her grandchildren, music, dancing, painting golfing, and daily bike rides along the canal. She was a long-time member of the Otis Ladies Golf League and enjoyed being able to play golf with her grandsons later in her life as they all learned to play. She was an avid gardener and could often be found “working in the yard” at her home in Bourne. She took much pride in her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, and giving cucumbers and tomatoes in the summer to whoever would take them.
A Visting hour will be held at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Bourne on Friday July 24th from 11:30- 12:30pm, service to be held 12:30pm, followed by a 1:30 pm burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery for friends and family who wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund or the Dementia Society of America.
