Jeremy Leonard Gobeil, a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend whose love for family, the Cape Cod coastline, and whose kindness and generosity were central to his character, passed away Thursday, March, 12 surrounded by those who loved him.
Jeremy was the beloved husband of Katy (Killgoar) Gobeil and a proud and loving father to Grace, Grady, and Cooper, who were the center of his world. His family was his greatest joy, and he took enormous pride in supporting and guiding his children in everything they pursued.
Jeremy grew up in Barnstable, Massachusetts, where he distinguished himself as a BHS Hall of Fame standout athlete. His talent and determination earned him a football scholarship to Northeastern University, where he became a record-setting player and served as captain of the 1993 Huskies football team. During his time at Northeastern, he formed, maintained, and cherished lifelong friendships. In addition to his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern, Jeremy earned a master’s degree from Fitchburg State University.
Jeremy began his professional career at The Home for Little Wanderers where he provided mentorship and kindness rebuilding the lives of children and families suffering trauma. He served for many years as a school administrator and principal in the Plymouth and Middleborough school districts. Jeremy was deeply committed to the students, families, and staff he served, and he took great pride in fostering strong relationships within the school community. Known for his steady leadership, sense of humor, and genuine care for others, he built a close-knit team and was respected and admired by colleagues, students, and families alike.
Jeremy carried that same warmth and loyalty into every part of his life. His easy smile, generous spirit, and instinctive kindness made him someone people gravitated toward and relied upon. Whether on the sidelines, in the classroom, or among friends and family, Jeremy’s presence brought people together.
He was predeceased by his mother, Sheila (Aylmer) Gobeil, his uncle James Aylmer, and his aunt Janice (Gobeil) Coelho.
In addition to his wife and children, Jeremy is survived by his father, Leonard Gobeil of Scituate, Massachusetts; his siblings, Andrew Gobeil and his partner Kathleen Moore of Owls Head, Maine; Erin Gilbert of Scituate, Massachusetts; Bart Gobeil and his wife Elizabeth of Savannah, Georgia; his sister-in-law Amy Hammer and her husband Rob of Grafton, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends across the country who are devastated by his loss.
Jeremy held special fondness for his two aunts, Maureen (Aylmer) Rossi of Murphys, California, and Irene Aylmer of Hyannis, Massachusetts. During times of great joy and sadness his aunts provided consistent and unconditional love and hope. By them, he will be especially missed.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21 at Swift Memorial United Methodist Church in Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 noon at The Flying Bridge Restaurant in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Reflecting Jeremy’s easygoing spirit and love of the ocean, those attending are encouraged to wear beach attire — shorts, flip-flops, and casual clothing — and to be prepared to share stories and memories of Jeremy.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Blade Leavenworth Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund, created in memory of a Bourne student who passed away at a young age, benefited Grace, Grady, and Cooper. Details about the fund will be provided at a later date. Jeremy’s family also invites those wishing to honor his memory to take a quiet walk, relax, or go for a swim in the ocean — remembering the deep joy he found along the shoreline of Sagamore Beach, which brought such happiness to him and his family, and at Kalmus Park Beach in Hyannis, where he first learned to swim and developed a lifelong love of the salt air, sand between his toes, and the gentle pull of the tides.
