Born in Dorchester, Ma, December 27, 1938, John was known for his ability to connect with people and for having a youthful and loving sense of humor. Making real connections with people is what mattered most to him and what he felt made life worth living. A humble, devout Catholic, John cared for many people in his life, including his church community, (St. Margaret’s Parish, a member since 1962), family, and other friends. He would frequently brighten someone’s day with a visit to the local nursing home. Having been a child during World War II, he witnessed a lot of change and never lost hope or his optimistic perspective for the future.
He received his B.S. in Education and English from Boston State College. A teacher for over four decades, he had a gift for reaching children and believing in them. He treated each person as an individual, helping them reach academic, professional and personal goals. He taught fifth grade at Otis Airforce base for 32 years and then became a substitute teacher for Bourne Public Schools another 9 years.
John was an avid racquetball player and traveler. One of his favorite places to visit was Taormina, Sicily. During one visit in 1964, he was invited to and attended the film premiere for “All the King's Men” held at the Teatro Antico di Taormina, in full formal attire and tuxedo. Highlights of this trip included hiking on Mt. Etna, swimming in the Mediterranean and visiting family.
His father, Anthony Sindoni was born in Messina, Sicily and his mother, Mamie Sindoni (Saia), also Sicilian descent, was 1st generation born here. John’s siblings included: brother Lawrence Sindoni of Weymouth MA (1935-2008), sister Mary Ann Ferriero of Plymouth (1928-2013), sister Anna Rose Sindoni of Bourne (1929-2005) and sister Annette Byrne of Tyngsboro MA (1933-2011).
John is survived by his students, young and old alike, people he has touched and loved along the way, and his beloved pet, John Boy.
