Joseph A. Agrillo Sr.

June 6, 1927January 6, 2019

Joseph A. Agrillo, Sr., 91, of Monument Beach passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 in his home surrounded by loving family after a bravely fought battle with illness.

Born in Dedham, MA, a son of the late Nunzio and Iolande (Capello). He was the husband of Lena (Cataldo) Agrillo.

A self made man that led a good long life, lived well and was in constant motion, even though he "officially" retired at 45 years old.

He had a sincere interest in people and a natural quest for knowledge. He was a very active member of the Bourne community donating to charities and volunteering his time. He was very proud to have served in the Navy and sharing many Navy experiences during family dinners.

He was the true meaning of jack of all trades, working on the family farm at a young age. His work ethic was beyond reproach which he instilled in his children. His heart was generous, sharing his knowledge, grace and many yard sale items. We are grateful to his Doctors, Aviles, Canaday, Prieto and Bouche for their exceptional care.

He is survived by his wife Lena of 66 years, and children, Nancy Agrillo and husband Chris Kelly, Beth Agrillo and Barry Andrews, Joseph Jr., and wife Crystal Agrillo, Laurie Agrillo and Bruce Goedecke and 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and his sister Dorothy Eunson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, January 10 , 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Church 841 Shore Road Pocasset. Interment at South Monument Cemetery. Visitation 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Bourne Food Pantry

So sorry to hear about Joe. Monument Beach won’t be the same. He always commented about my grandchildren. He thought they were so polite and he loved they way they took care of each other. They stopped to talk to him every time they rode by the house on their bikes. He was so concerned for their safety. You will be missed Joe.

A good man, always with one question at town meeting. He loved the town and students of Bourne.
Glad I got to spend some time with you.

Joe will always be very fondly remembered. Any time he saw me he always made a point of stopping to chat. If any issues were ever mentioned, he was always asking what he could do and was ready to lend a hand or do what he could.

I am one of the lucky ones. I got to know the Agrillos, and Joe in particular, back in the 70s. He was always so generous with his knowledge and time. Most of the time it was just hanging out with him. I will never forget the day he said to another fellow and myself “jump in my car, well take a little ride.” 2 hours later we were up in Bedford where he showed us around his properties and we did a little upkeep. And he bought us lunch ! After we moved away 10 years ago we made it a point to go to Joe and Lena’s every July on our vacations back home, where we shared ice cream and fond memories with them, and the girls. Again, I am one of the lucky ones. See you again, Joe, inside the pearly gates.
