

Joseph was born in Boswell, PA and grew up locally, graduating from Conemaugh Township High School in 1956. In 1959 he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in Naval Submarine Service from 1959-1966 during which he served on the USS Patrick Henry and the USS Hancock and he was a Plank Owner of the USS Benjamin Franklin. After his service he worked for the State of New York with the Division of Youth, retiring in 2000.
He was a longtime resident of Groton, NY serving many years on the school board. He belonged to the Toast Masters of Cortland, NY and served as a past president of Rotary Club. He was an active member of St. Anthony’s Church, serving as Eucharist Minister, Catechism teacher, and the Men’s Club. In 2004, he retired to Bourne where he was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Pocasset. Brother Joseph V. Arcail was an esteemed member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a past Faithful Navigator for Bishop Tyler Assembly Number 402. He was also a beloved member of Bishop Feehan Council 2911, serving as past Grand Knight, Trustee, and Lector. Joseph was a lifelong practitioner of martial arts. As one of the original members of the Cornell Shorinji Kempo Club, he earned his black belt in Shorinji Kempo and a brown belt in Judo.
Joseph is survived by his wife Kay (Mahl) Arcail to whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Father to Theresa Arcail Giamichael and her husband David of Chicago, IL, Joseph Vincent Arcail III and his wife Elizabeth of Bethel, Ohio, Amy Arcail of Kintnersville, PA. Brother to Carmella Kletjian of Boston and Victoria Galluci of Jennerstown, PA. Grandfather to Joshua, Dane, Anthony, Gabriella Giamichael, Mark and Adam Roncase, Ashley Arcail Abdo and her husband Dan Abdo, Wessley Robinson, Christopher and Stephanie Gaffney, as well as 3 great-grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his daughter Kathryn.
A period of visitation with Joseph’s family will be held on Friday, October 14, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., in Bourne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 15, at 11:00am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Rd., in Pocasset. Interment will be held on Monday, October 17, at 10:15am in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
